Master
planning, design, construction coordination and oversight of an historic
home on Prospect Hill Road in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Originally constructed
prior to the revolution, the Bacon House has been converted over time
to reflect Greek Revival tastes. For many years a working farm, the property
bears the traces of its history discreetly. A recent renovation to the
house and new owners required a restorative approach to a Master Plan
for the property, one which respects and integrates the historic landscape
where it is situated. Restoration of former meadows discreetly incorporates
modern activities. Walled gardens, flowering hedgerows and revised plantings
afford greater privacy while maintaining essentially historic views from
the roadway. Architectural revisions as conceived by the Landscape Designer
clarify approaches to the house. The pool, pool house and pool garden
are based on historic New England precedents. |
